A Bad Day for Rudel by Aitor Azkue

Very outstanding dio “A Bad Day for Rudel” by Aitor Azkue (Bilbao, Spain).

By author:

HANS ULRICH RUDEL… the most condecorated Whermacht soldier, with 2530 combat missions, 596 tanks destroyed, the battleship “Marat” sunken, two smaller cruisers, nine enemy planes, 150 antiaircraft batteries, 70 landing craft, countless bridges, railway lines and hundreds of sunken military transport river boats, the latter in Stalingrad… and 30 times shot down by the enemy artillery and not by enemy fighters. (in one of these times his co-pilot during 1500 combat missions, Erwin Henschel, will die crossing a river… but not this time! That’s another story.

This vignette represets one of those shot downs in russian no mans land. They leave the plane quickly and cross a river escaping from the enemy, Rudel covering his co-pilot.
For this work Jorge Grande, sculpted and painted me, from 2 figures of “Tommy’s war”, the two personal soldiers with their luftwaffe uniforms. An amazing work.

Enjoy it!
